A 30-year-old businesswoman, Ibekwe Ezinne Mary, has been taken into police custody in Lagos State following the alleged stabbing death of her 17-year-old salesgirl, Ihechidere Favour Uka. The incident, which reportedly occurred on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, has sparked outrage across social media.
The Fatal Altercation
The tragedy came to light after a relative of the victim, identified on Facebook as Nnasco, narrated the sequence of events leading to the teenager’s death. According to the account, the confrontation began at approximately 6:30 p.m. at a cosmetics shop where the victim was employed.
The argument reportedly started when Ezinne sent Favour on an errand to retrieve an item from the shop. When the girl did not return as quickly as expected, the businesswoman reportedly became enraged.
Confession and Escalation
The relative claimed that Ezinne confessed in police custody to the physical escalation that followed the girl’s return.
“Ezinne the killer got angry and slapped her 2 times and the little girl slapped back once,” the post read. “Then Ezinne stabbed her with a kitchen knife in the chest and she bled to death.”
Public Scrutiny and Police Action
The case has drawn significant attention to the treatment of young domestic and retail workers in Lagos. Authorities are currently investigating the matter, with the suspect remaining in custody as the case is prepared for prosecution.
Friends and family of the deceased have taken to social media to demand justice for Favour, described by those who knew her as a hardworking young girl.
