He was left stranded after soldiers ‘ousted’ incumbent President Umaro Sissoco Embalo and shut down all land, sea and air borders of Guinea-Bissau.

Mr. Jonathan was evacuated on Thursday night alongside his delegation.

He told journalists in Abuja on Friday that what happened in Guinea-Bissau was not a coup or if anything at all, it was a “ceremonial coup”, urging ECOWAS and AU to ensure the results of the November 23, 2025 elections are declared.

On Saturday, he visited Aso Rock to brief President Tinubu on happenings in the Portuguese-speaking West African nation.
