Prison Officer Accused of Having Sex With Inmate and Smuggling Drugs Into Jail, Court Told

A 23-year-old female prison officer, Isabelle Dale, has been accused of engaging in sexual relationships with two inmates and smuggling drugs into prison facilities, a UK court has heard.

Prosecutors at Southwark Crown Court alleged that Dale had sex with convicted robber Shahid Sharif inside the multi-faith prayer room at HMP Coldingley in Surrey, while two other prisoners acted as lookouts. The alleged affair is said to have taken place between September 2021 and December 2022.

After her relationship with Sharif was uncovered, he was transferred to HMP Swaleside in Kent, where Dale allegedly continued to visit him. CCTV footage reportedly showed the pair embracing and kissing during her visits.

The court also heard that Dale was involved with another inmate, Connor Money, who is serving nine years for causing the death of his friend in a 147mph police chase.

Prosecutor Kieran Brand told the court that Dale’s involvement with Sharif extended beyond a romantic relationship — she allegedly agreed to help smuggle Spice-laced envelopes into prison and even helped operate a drug-dealing Snapchat account linked to Sharif.

Police later found drug-smuggling materials, an engagement ring purportedly given to her by Sharif, and carbon paper used to conceal contraband during a search of her car. A framed photo of the pair was also found in her home.

Dale, who joined the prison service in September 2021, has denied two counts of misconduct in public office and one count of conspiracy to convey prohibited items into prison.

Her alleged accomplice, Lilea Sallis, from East Sussex, has also denied a charge of conspiracy to smuggle banned substances into prison.

The trial, expected to last two weeks, continues.
