Bernard Antwi Boasiako aka Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been granted a Ghc 1 million bail with two sureties in his mining-related charges.
Wontumi appeared before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service on Monday, October 6, 2025.
He successfully met the bail conditions. Africa Publicity understands that at least three mining-related charges are expected to be preferred against Wontumi on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. The charges are to be preferred against him at the High Court in Accra.
He was invited to the CID headquarters in Accra on Monday for questioning over his alleged involvement in illegal mining activities.
The Attorney General and Minister of Justice of Ghana, Dominic Ayine, had cautioned last Friday that Wontumi would be arrested if he failed to report himself to the police.
