Supertramp Founder Rick Davies Dies at 81

The co-founder of the rock band Supertramp, Rick Davies, has died at the age of 81. The English vocalist and keyboardist passed away on Saturday, a decade after being diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, according to a statement from the band.

“As co-writer, along with partner Roger Hodgson, he was the voice and pianist behind Supertramp’s most iconic songs, leaving an indelible mark on rock music history,” the statement said. “His soulful vocals and unmistakable touch on the Wurlitzer became the heartbeat of the band’s sound.”

Davies was the writer behind many of Supertramp’s hits, including “Bloody Well Right” in 1974, which was their US chart breakthrough, and “Goodbye Stranger” in 1979.
