Sean Kingston
Jamaican-American rapper and singer, Sean Kingston, has been sentenced to over three and a half years in US federal prison for a $1 million.
Kingston and his mother Janice Turner were found guilty of sending fake wire receipts for high end merchandise. Prosecutors said they stole luxury items including watches, 232-inch LED TV, a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade and furniture exceeding $1 million.
According to prosecutors, Kingston – whose real name is Kisean Anderson – and his mother used his celebrity status to get victims to give them products and when payment was due, the mother and son would send the vendors fake wire receipts.
Before he was sentenced, Kingston apologized to the court.
Local US media reports said Kingston told the court he has learned from his actions.
The mother and son were convicted in March this year by a federal jury of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud.
In July, Janice was sentenced to five years in prison.
Reports Kingston’s lawyer, Zeljka Bozanic, told the court he was “a soft guy who grew up poor when he rose to fame overnight.”
According to the lawyer, Kingston still had the mentality of a teenager and didn’t know how to run his bank accounts or business.
Kingston will start serving his time in prison immediately, according local media reports.
