The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has cleared a number of street children and their guardians of some streets in Accra.

GIS embarked on the exercise on Friday morning, May 16, 2025 at Kaneshie and Abossey Okai.

The exercise is part of broader efforts to address the increasing presence of non-Ghanaian street dwellers, especially minors in Accra.

During the exercise, GIS rounded up several women and children believed to be foreigners.

The children and their guardians usually solicit alms from motorists and pedestrians.

According to GIS officials, the operation is part of a nationwide exercise to decongest the streets, enhance public safety, and reduce child exploitation. The exercise also aims to identify persons residing in Ghana illegally and ensure proper immigration procedures are followed.
