Aina, Iwobi, Calvin-Bassey clash; Arsenal vent on Leicester

The two teams with four Super Eagles players (two each) in their pay roll have been enjoying admirable unbeaten runs in the Premier League go head-to-head at the City Ground today as Nottingham Forest and Fulham pit their wits against one another.

The Tricky Trees have had a week to recover from a chaotic 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion, while the Cottagers ran out 3-1 victors over a lacklustre Newcastle United.

South Coast chaos reigned supreme at the Amex Stadium last week, where Forest retained their unbeaten streak for the 2024-25 Premier League campaign courtesy of a four-goal stalemate, in which strikes from Chris Wood and Ramon Sosa arrived either side of Jack Hinshelwood and Danny Welbeck’s efforts.

The hosts have also found the back of the net in eight straight Premier League games since drawing a blank against Manchester City at the end of April, but none of their last five top-flight home matches have ended in victory, their longest winless Premier League run on familiar turf in the 21st century.

Arsenal vs Leicester City

On the back of a near-faultless evening in the EFL Cup, Arsenal return to Premier League duty today, when Leicester City visit the Emirates Stadium.

A Gunners team comprising fringe players and four teenagers made light work of Bolton Wanderers in a 5-1 thumping on Wednesday evening, where Ethan Nwaneri scored twice and Raheem Sterling also opened his Arsenal account.

Mikel Arteta’s men remain unbeaten this season thanks to their midweek mauling of the Trotters, although last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City may have felt like a defeat, as John Stones came up with a 98th-minute leveller for the reigning champions.

Arsenal are seldom outfought on their own pitch when newly-promoted teams come to town, having strung together a 39-game unbeaten run at the Emirates versus such clubs in the Premier League since being outclassed by Newcastle United in 2010.
