A U.S. congressman, Riley M. Moore, has issued a sharp warning to Nigeria, signaling potential diplomatic consequences if stronger action is not taken to protect Christian communities following a deadly attack in Plateau State.

The warning comes in the wake of a devastating overnight assault in Jos North, where gunmen opened fire on residents during Palm Sunday celebrations. Local reports indicate that dozens of people were killed, with many others injured as panic spread through the community. Survivors fled their homes in fear, leaving neighborhoods shaken and grieving.

U.S. Congressman Riley M. Moore condemned the violence and called on Nigerian authorities to respond decisively to the growing security threat.

“If they don’t take this threat seriously and mobilize to defend our brothers and sisters in Christ, the blood of these martyrs will be on their hands, and there will be significant consequences for Nigeria’s relationship with the United States,” Congressman Moore stated on X (formerly Twitter).

In response to the attack, Nigerian authorities have imposed a curfew in parts of Jos and deployed additional security forces to the affected areas. Officials say the measures are aimed at restoring order and preventing further violence.

The incident adds to ongoing concerns about security and sectarian tensions in parts of Nigeria, with international observers increasingly calling for stronger protections for vulnerable communities.
