U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened that US-Israeli forces would bomb Iran’s critical infrastructure, including energy infrastructure if a deal is not reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.
Writing on Truth Social, Trump said, “If for any reason a deal is not shortly reached, which it probably will be, and if the Hormuz Strait is not immediately ‘Open for Business,’ we will conclude our lovely ‘stay’ in Iran by blowing up and completely obliterating all of their Electric Generating Plants, Oil Wells and Kharg Island (and possibly all desalinization plants!).”
The statement underscores the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil, and signals the potential for broader economic and geopolitical fallout if access remains restricted.
Trump also indicated that diplomatic efforts may be underway with alternative leadership in Iran. “The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran. Great progress has been made,” he said.
Despite the strong rhetoric, Trump clarified that the sites he referenced had not yet been targeted. He framed the possible military action as retaliatory, saying it would be “in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47 year ‘Reign of Terror.’”
The remarks add to rising uncertainty in U.S.-Iran relations, with global markets and policymakers closely monitoring developments around the crucial waterway and the prospects for de-escalation.
