South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has called on South Africans to reject the growing global narrative that their country targets individuals based on race or culture.
He made the call in his weekly newsletter. Reflecting on Human Rights Day, celebrated last Friday, Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of unity and reminded citizens that South Africa’s Constitution guarantees equal rights and protections for all racial, cultural, and linguistic groups.
He urged the nation to reject divisiveness and uphold the values of tolerance and inclusivity.
The call from Ramaphosa comes after the US President, Donald Trump administration says a land expropriation law South Africa recently passed was “blatantly” discriminatory against its white Afrikaners, who are descendants of Dutch and other European colonials. The Trump administration said the South African government was allowing violent attacks against Afrikaner farming communities.
