An 84-year-old man has been rescued alive after falling into a deep well in the Aboru community of Lagos, following a swift response by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
The incident occurred on Tuesday at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline area of Aboru, within the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Emergency officials said a distress alert was received at 10:09 a.m., triggering the immediate mobilisation of firefighters to the location.
In a statement issued by the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, rescue teams—supported by officers from the Abesan Fire Station—arrived at the scene at about 10:20 a.m. and commenced a coordinated rescue operation.
According to the service, the victim had fallen into a well estimated to be approximately 140 feet deep. He was successfully brought out alive and stabilised before being released into the care of his family for further attention.
Fire officials noted that initial observations raised questions about how the incident occurred, as the well was reportedly secured. Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the fall are still being examined, and further findings will be communicated after investigations are concluded.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reaffirmed its commitment to rapid emergency response across the state and urged residents to remain safety-conscious and promptly report emergencies through official channels to enable timely intervention.
