Ambassador Martin Kimani Named CEO of The Africa Center

New York, NY—In a landmark announcement, Jendayi Frazer and Chelsea Clinton, Co-Chairs of the Board of Trustees of The Africa Center, unveiled Ambassador Martin Kimani as the organization’s new President and Chief Executive Officer. Ambassador Kimani, an accomplished diplomat and advocate for Africa and its diaspora, takes the helm following the departure of Uzodinma Iweala, M.D., who led the institution for seven transformative years.

Ambassador Kimani brings a wealth of expertise, having served as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, where he represented the nation on the Security Council and led the UN Development Programme’s Executive Board. His career has been defined by leadership in diplomacy, counterterrorism, and cultural advocacy, making him uniquely suited to steer The Africa Center into a dynamic future.

“Africa is at a pivotal moment, and Ambassador Kimani’s bold vision and deep experience will position The Africa Center as a global hub for transformative ideas and partnerships,” said Chelsea Clinton. Jendayi Frazer echoed this sentiment, emphasizing Kimani’s ability to unite diverse stakeholders to drive meaningful impact.

Reflecting on his new role, Ambassador Kimani stated, “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to amplify Africa’s stories, opportunities, and global influence. Together, we will bridge Africa and its diaspora to catalyze progress and honor the continent’s rich histories while shaping its dynamic future.”

Ambassador Kimani’s appointment signals a renewed commitment to fostering cultural, policy, and business collaborations that celebrate Africa’s central role in shaping the world.
