Accra Fire Outbreak: Seven Houses Affected, Firefighter Injured

ACCRA, GHANA — A fire outbreak at Lartebiokorshie has affected seven houses and injured a firefighter, sparking panic among residents and prompting a significant security deployment to the area.

According to the Regional Fire Commander, Assistant Chief Fire Officer Rashid Nisawu, the first emergency call was received at 16:15 hours, and the Service responded swiftly, dispatching the first fire tender just one minute later. By 16:24 hours, the first fire engine was on the scene.

“At the moment, we have been able to confine the fire. We currently have about six fire engines working to contain the blaze,” Officer Nisawu said, urging residents to remain calm. “There should not be any panic. We want to assure everybody that they should not panic.”

A major challenge faced by the fire service has been the limited water supply in the area. “We have to commute to distant places for water,” he explained. “We also called the police to assist us in managing the crowd and ensuring safety.”

While no fatalities have been reported, one firefighter and a civilian sustained injuries and have received medical attention from the Ambulance Service team. Emergency responders remain on the scene as the community assesses the damage. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing. Authorities are urging residents to remain calm and exercise caution while the situation is managed.
