A 45-year-old farmer has been arrested for allegedly raping a 65-year-old woman duringĀ a farm fumigation exercise.
The suspect named Abajigbin Gbenga, has been remanded in a correctional centre following an order from an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate court in Nigeria.
Nigerian police have since charged the suspect with rape. Narrating the incident, the prosecution counsel, Inspector Sodiq Adeniyi, informed the court that Gbenga committed the offence at Ipole Iloro-Ekiti in April 2024.
The Chief Magistrate, Dolamu Babalogbon, rejected the plea of Gbenga, asking the police to return the case file to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution in Ekiti for legal advice.
The Magistrate adjourned the case until July 31, 2024.
