Niger’s defence ministry has announced that armed men have carried out an attack at the airport in Niamey, killing 11 soldiers and two civilians.
The attack on Thursday, June 18, 2026 comes five months after a major assault in Niger.
According to the ministry, 22 of the armed men were killed in the attack.
The ministry says in a statement read out on national television that about 20 suspects were arrested.
Reports say soldiers fought suspected rebels in Niamey near the Diori Hamani International Airport and a military base on Thursday.
