Iranians living in the US protested outside the Los Angeles Stadium in Inglewood during Iran’s World Cup opener against New Zealand on Monday.
The demonstrators waved Iran’s 1979 pre-revolutionary lion-and-sun flags.
FIFA had banned the pre-revolutionary flag of Iran inside the stadium.
But the protesters went ahead to wave it in defiance, calling for change in Iran.
The protesters believed the current flag of the Islamic Republic of Iran represents blood, repression, torture and terrorism, and needs to be changed.
