Nurses in Zimbabwe have started a nationwide strike in demand for better wages and conditions of service.

The strike is being led by the Zimbabwe Nurses Association.

It follows failed salary negotiations with the government.

According to nurses, they earn less than $300 a month and rejected a $30 salary increase, calling it insufficient amid rising living costs.

They are asking for a minimum wage of around $600.
