US President Donald Trump has told countries experiencing sharp disruptions in oil supply caused by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz to buy fuel from the US or take control of their own access, saying the US will no longer fight for those countries.
“All of those countries that can’t get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the U.S., we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Straigt, and TAKE IT,” President Donald J. Trump wrote on his Truth Social.
Iran closed the Strait of Hormuz after the start of Operation Epic Fury on February 28, 2026.
The closure of the Strait has caused major disruption to global oil supply.
Speaking about the failure of NATO members to support the US in opening up the Strait, Trump says “You’ll have to start learning how to fight for yourself, the U.S.A. won’t be there to help you anymore, just like you weren’t there for us.”
He added that “Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil!”
