Police Arrest Man for Allegedly Killing Elder Brother in Adamawa,Nigeria

The Adamawa State Police Command has taken a suspect into custody over the alleged killing of a man in Gombi Local Government Area, confirming that the suspect is the victim’s younger brother.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the arrest followed actionable intelligence received by security operatives in the area.

Suspect and Incident

Police identified the suspect as Abubakar Sadiq, 40, a resident of Boga Village, Gombi LGA. He is accused of killing his elder brother, Alhaji Sadiq Boga, an incident that reportedly occurred on January 20, 2026.

According to the command, the suspect confessed during interrogation and admitted carrying out the act with the assistance of five other individuals.

Operation and Recovery of Weapons

The arrest was carried out by officers attached to the Gombi Divisional Police Headquarters, working in collaboration with professional hunters. Following the suspect’s confession, police recovered weapons allegedly used in the crime.

Recovered items included:
• One AK-47 rifle
• Twenty-four rounds of live ammunition

Encounter with Alleged Accomplices

The suspect reportedly named two accomplices — Jalo Hamiyu (35) and Umar Baba (41), both from Fotta Village, Gombi LGA. A joint team of police operatives, hunters, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) later moved to their suspected hideouts.

Police said the two men opened fire when they sighted operatives, leading to a gun exchange. Both suspects were neutralised during the confrontation.

Additional weapons recovered at the scene included:
• One locally fabricated single-barrel rifle
• One Dane gun

Ongoing Investigation

The police command noted that efforts are ongoing to track down other members of the criminal group who fled the area. Investigations are continuing to fully unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Dankombo Morris, commended the operatives for what he described as their bravery and professionalism. He also reassured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining security and protecting lives and property across the state.

Police confirmed that the arrested suspect will be charged to court once investigations are concluded.
