Nigeria: Ondo Police Bust Employee-Led Theft Ring, Recover ₦20.45m Worth of Stolen Goods in Ore

The Ondo State Police Command has uncovered an internal theft scheme at a commercial outlet in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of seven suspects over the disappearance of goods valued at ₦20.45 million.

Police authorities said investigations revealed that the theft was allegedly orchestrated by staff members of the shop in collaboration with external accomplices who received and helped dispose of the stolen items.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, three of the suspects were employees of the affected shop, while four others were arrested for allegedly receiving the stolen goods. A driver was also implicated for his role in transporting the items.

Those arrested include Oyineke Joseph (storekeeper), Abioye Yusuf (computer operator), Abdullahi Quadir, and alleged receivers Micheal Njoku, Agu Monday, and Ikuemehin Oloruntimilehin. A driver identified as Ojewuyi was also named as part of the operation.

How the Case Unfolded:
The case was reported to the police on January 3, 2026, by the shop owner, Ogunyomi Segun, who alleged that goods had been systematically stolen from his business between 2024 and early 2026. The missing items included assorted soft drinks, Trophy cans, and other canned beverages.

Following the complaint, detectives launched an investigation which led to the arrest of the suspects. Police said the stolen goods were moved out of the shop in batches over an extended period to avoid detection.

Police Findings:
DSP Jimoh disclosed that during interrogation, the suspects allegedly confessed to their involvement and provided detailed accounts of the roles played by each person in the theft and distribution chain.

The police described the arrests as part of a broader effort to curb economic crimes and protect businesses operating within the state.The suspects remain in custody and are expected to be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Ondo State Police Command urged business owners to strengthen internal controls and called on residents to report suspicious activities promptly, reiterating its commitment to tackling crime and ensuring offenders are brought to justice.
