The remains of Latif “Latz” Ayodele and Sina Ghami, two prominent members of British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua’s inner circle, have been flown out of Nigeria to the United Kingdom for burial.
The move follows the fatal car accident on Monday, December 29, 2025, on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, which claimed their lives while they were accompanying Joshua on a holiday visit.
Loss of a Training Legacy
The two men were foundational figures in Joshua’s career and personal life:
- Latif “Latz” Ayodele: Joshua’s long-time trainer and a constant presence in his corner throughout his rise to world heavyweight dominance.
- Sina Ghami: A highly respected strength and conditioning coach credited with keeping the former champion in peak physical condition for his elite-level bouts.
The loss of both men represents the dismantling of Joshua’s primary training infrastructure and the passing of two of his most trusted confidants.
Details of the Collision
According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the team was traveling in a black Range Rover SUV near Ogere, Ogun State. The vehicle reportedly veered off the road and collided violently with a stationary truck parked along the corridor.
Emergency responders who arrived at the scene confirmed that both Ayodele and Ghami died instantly upon impact.
Joshua’s Recovery and Discharge
Anthony Joshua, 36, was also in the vehicle at the time of the crash. While he was pulled from the wreckage alive, he sustained minor physical injuries, including bruises and what medical staff described as “mild shock.”
He was rushed to a private medical facility in Lekki, Lagos, for stabilization. After being monitored for 48 hours, the former unified world champion was discharged on Wednesday.
The repatriation of his friends’ remains marks a painful conclusion to a trip that was meant to be a period of rest and celebration following his recent high-profile match against Jake Paul.
