New Orleans police have taken a 27-year-old man, Chukwuebuka Eweni, into custody after he allegedly stabbed his father to death and injured his two sisters during a domestic incident on Pebble Street.
Family members told WWL Louisiana that the deceased, Samuel Eweni, was a Computer Sciences Professor at Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO). Relatives described the attack as sudden and shocking, noting that the suspect had a history of mental illness but had never exhibited violent behavior before.
Details of the Incident and Arrest
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) confirmed that officers responded to a report of “an aggravated battery by cutting believed to be domestic in nature” around 9:59 pm on Monday, November 11, 2025.
Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive adult male (Samuel Eweni) with at least one fatal stab wound, and two other adult victims (his daughters) with stab injuries inside the residence. The two surviving victims were immediately transported to a local hospital.
- Victim Status: One of the sisters has since been released from the hospital, while the other remains admitted but is expected to recover.
- Suspect Custody: The NOPD confirmed that Chukwuebuka Eweni was located in Jefferson Parish and is now in law enforcement custody undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility.
Charges and Investigation
NOPD Homicide Section detectives successfully identified Eweni as the perpetrator and have obtained an arrest warrant on charges including:
- One count of second-degree murder
- Two counts of counts of attempted second-degree murder
Detectives confirmed the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous. The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will formally identify the deceased and determine the cause of death after completing an autopsy and notifying next of kin.
