Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has expressed disappointment in the performance of Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng.

Speaking on Accra-based Channel One TV with journalist Hanson Agyemang on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Mr. Blay said Mr. Agyebeng has not lived up to expectations since assuming office.

In the interview monitored by Africa Publicity, Mr. Blay contrasted Mr. Agyebeng’s performance with that of Ghana’s first Special Prosecutor, Martin Amidu, whom he praised for his integrity, fairness, and independence.

“When Martin Amidu was appointed, it raised a few eyebrows—even within our party and at cabinet level,” Mr. Blay recalled. “But one thing was clear: many of us agreed he had integrity, was fair-minded, and not vindictive.”

He commended Mr. Amidu’s commitment to upholding the law, saying, “When he was convinced about a matter, he pursued it with the law on his side. It was good to have someone neutral—someone even perceived to come from the other side politically.”

Mr. Blay described Mr. Amidu as effective and courageous in his role, noting that he even challenged the president when necessary. “He was doing very well. It was unfortunate when he resigned; some of us were truly sorry. He could have served this country very well in that capacity,” he said.

In contrast, Mr. Blay concluded that Kissi Agyebeng’s tenure has so far been “very disappointing.”
