Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, widely known as Davido , has been appointed as the Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
The announcement was made by the Osun State Government on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, as part of the state’s renewed effort to revitalize its sports sector and empower young people through sports development.
Mobilizing Investment and Growth
According to the official statement, Davido’s appointment is aimed at mobilizing private and public sector support for sports financing, with a strong focus on upgrading facilities and expanding opportunities for youth participation across the state.
The government noted that the decision reflects Governor Ademola Adeleke’s broader commitment to modernizing sports infrastructure and fostering community engagement through athletics.
Kola Adewusi, the Deputy Governor of Osun State and Commissioner for Sports, confirmed the appointment and revealed that the singer enthusiastically accepted the offer.
“Davido’s appointment is a strategic step. His influence and passion will help attract funds that will significantly boost sports growth in Osun,” Adewusi said.
Infrastructure and Policy Plans
Adewusi further disclosed that the state is finalizing plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will act as the central body for sports administration and policy implementation.
Additionally, he confirmed that the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium is nearing completion and is expected to meet Olympic standards once finished.
The Osun State Government reaffirmed its commitment to making sports a key driver of youth empowerment, talent discovery, and community development—an agenda that will benefit greatly from Davido’s global reach and leadership.
