Man Remanded for Assaulting Sister During Dispute Over Leftover Food in Bulawayo,Zimbabwe

A 29-year-old man, Phillip Nkomo, has been remanded in custody in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, after allegedly assaulting his sister during a heated argument over leftover food.

The incident occurred earlier this month at Thokozani Flats in the Mzilikazi suburb, leaving the victim with visible injuries and the family traumatized.

Nkomo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Abednico Ndebele on a charge of physical abuse. Prosecutor Sibusisiwe Sithole told the court that the altercation began when Nkomo demanded to eat food his sister had kept for her young son.

“The complainant refused, saying she had reserved it for her child. The accused became violent and assaulted her indiscriminately,” Sithole said.

The attack reportedly left the woman with a swollen eye and forehead, injuries that required medical attention at Mpilo Central Hospital. She later reported the matter to the police, leading to her brother’s arrest.

The case has been adjourned, with Nkomo remanded in custody until his next court appearance.

The incident has sparked renewed concern over the rise in domestic violence cases in Bulawayo, where minor disputes are increasingly turning violent.
