President Bola Tinubu has condemned the killing of Ms Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, a young television anchor with Arise News, who was murdered during a robbery at her Katampe residence in Abuja.
Describing the crime as “shocking, wicked, and unacceptable,” the President directed security agencies to immediately track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Ms Maduagwu was a promising professional journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner,” Tinubu said in a statement on Tuesday, noting that her death had deprived Nigeria of a bright media talent cut down in her prime.
He extended condolences to her family, colleagues at Arise News, and the wider journalism community, assuring Nigerians that his administration would continue to strengthen security measures to safeguard lives and property.
First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu also expressed grief over the journalist’s passing, describing it as “painful and most unfortunate.” She offered condolences to the bereaved family, Arise Media Chairman Chief Nduka Obaigbena, colleagues, and friends, while praying for strength and comfort for all who mourn.
