The Delta State Police Command has arrested a mother, a nurse, and three others in Ika North East Local Government Area for allegedly selling a newborn baby for ₦1.5 million.
The case was reported on September 25, 2025, to the Owa-Oyibu Police Division by human rights activist Osim Daniel, following a petition from one Morka Celestine of Boji-Boji Owa. Celestine alleged that his neighbour, identified as Joy Osoya, had sold her baby shortly after delivery.
Detectives arrested Osoya, who confessed to the crime and led operatives to the home of a nurse, Angela Emi, said to have delivered the baby on September 22 and arranged its sale. According to investigators, Emi gave Osoya ₦1 million from the proceeds.
Both women, along with three other suspects, are now in custody. Police also recovered ₦555,000 from Osoya as evidence.
Efforts are underway to recover the baby, while the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba, after preliminary investigations.
