Ghana Election 2024: Bawumia Denies Losing In Zongo Communities

The 2024 presidential candidate of Ghana’s opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has denied losing in Zongo communities during the December 7 presidential election last year.

According to him, he never performed poorly in Zongo communities contrary to what many people including even some persons within his own Party have said.

He said allegations that his performance in the Zongo communities were poor are baseless propaganda.

Dr. Bawumia was speaking at a NPP meeting in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

According to him, claims that Muslims and Zongo voters did not support his election bid in 2024 were not backed by evidence.

Dr. Bawumia is a Muslim and many were those who thought that he will majority votes from the northern parts of Ghana which have predominantly Muslim populations.

According to him, “The propaganda out there is that Muslims and the Zongo people did not cast their votes for Dr. Bawumia. When I heard it, I asked, ‘Where is the data to support these claims?’ Because for me, if you tell me something, I need data to prove whether it’s true.”

He added that “Recently, one presidential aspirant claimed that in the Zongos, Dr. Bawumia won only one polling station in the entire country.”
