Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana’s main opposition political party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed how he nearly died in the custody of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) where he was detained a few weeks ago.
Narrating his nightmare in custody, Chairman Wontumi says at a point, he was seeing some of his dead relatives.
It would be recalled that Chairman Wontumi was arrested on May 27, 2025 for alleged fraud, money laundering and causing financial loss to the state.
Delivering a speech at former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign rally in the Adansi Asokwa Constituency on September 10, 2025, Chairman says “When I was arrested by EOCO, if you move your legs three times, that’s the width of the place where I was kept. If you look at where I slept, I nearly died.”
He added that “If someone is about to die, you would know; you would see your relatives who have already passed away. You would begin to sense their presence around you, which literally means you are about to join them.”
