LONDON — West Ham United have confirmed that defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka has accepted an invitation from the Democratic Republic of Congo Football Federation to represent the country at senior international level.
The England-born right-back has been named in DR Congo’s squad for their upcoming Group B fixtures against South Sudan and Senegal on September 5 and 9. He will line up alongside players such as Axel Tuanzebe, Arthur Masuaku, and Yoane Wissa.
DR Congo currently tops the group with 13 points, holding a narrow lead over Senegal and Sudan, who are level on 12 points each.
Wan-Bissaka, who turns 28 soon, was born in England and featured for the country at youth level but never broke into the senior side. Despite receiving several approaches from DR Congo in the past, he had previously declined the opportunity.
