Ghana: NDC’s Candidate Wins Akwatia By-Election

The parliamentary candidate of Ghana’s ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Bernard Bediako Baidoo, has been declared winner of the Akwatia Constituency parliamentary by-election in the Eastern Region of the country.

Per Ghana Electoral Commission’s certified results, Mr. Baidoo polled 18,199 votes of the total valid votes cast on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The opposition New Patriotic Party’s candidate, secured 15,235 votes.

Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) candidate, Owusu Patrick, trailed badly with 82 votes.

According to the Electoral Commission’s results, out of the total ballots cast, 33, 819 were valid, and 303 were rejected.

The Akwatia Constituency parliamentary by-election became necessary following the death of the Member of Parliament for the Constituency, Ernest Kumi this year.

Voting in the by-election was held across 119 polling stations.
