American President, Donald Trump, has announced that he will be awarding former New York City Mayor, Rudy Giuliani, Presidential Medal of Freedom.

President Trump made the announcement on Monday, September 1, 2025, in a post on his social media platform, Truth Social.

According to him, “As President of the United States of America, I am pleased to announce that Rudy Giuliani, the greatest Mayor in the history of New York City, and an equally great American Patriot, will receive the Presidential Medal Of Freedom, our country’s highest civilian,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He added that “Details as to time and place to follow.”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is America’s highest civilian honor that’s given to those “who have made exemplary contributions to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or other significant societal, public or private endeavors.”

The announcement comes after Giuliani was hospitalized over the weekend with reportedly multiple broken bones following a car crash in New Hampshire.

Giuliani became a close adviser to President Trump in his first term and was a key spreader of conspiracy theories and unfounded claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen after Trump’s loss.

He was disbarred in New York and Washington, D.C., and declared bankruptcy after being found liable for defaming two Georgia election workers and ordered to pay $148 million in damages.
