Telecel Ghana’s HealthFest Screens Over 360 Kumasi Residents for Free

Over 360 residents of Kumasi benefited from free health screenings at the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s HealthFest initiative, held at the Bantama Market as part of the company’s Ashanti Month celebrations in June 2025.

Organized in collaboration with Opemsuo Radio, the general health assessment included checks for cervical and breast cancer, blood pressure, malaria, hepatitis B, typhoid, weight, and general health consultations.

Of the services provided, 80 women received cervical and breast cancer screenings, with three positive detections flagged for urgent follow-up care, underscoring the critical need for proactive health screenings in Ghana, where late-stage cancer diagnoses are common.

“HealthFest is our commitment to providing preventive care where it’s needed most, because early detection and timely treatment can make a marked difference by saving lives,” said Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of Foundation, Sustainability and External Communications at Telecel Ghana.

Additionally, 300 people were able to register, renew, or replace their National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) ID cards on-site, addressing a significant financial barrier to consistent healthcare access for low-income households.

Ama Bonsu, a Kumasi resident, expressed gratitude for the free health screening and medication provided. “I can’t thank Telecel Foundation enough for the health checks and medicines at no cost to me,” she said after her consultation.

HealthFest is part of the Telecel Foundation’s Connected Health pillar, which focuses on early detection, health education, and bridging health insurance gaps in underserved areas.

As part of its Ashanti Month celebrations, Telecel Ghana is engaging in various community-focused initiatives across the region, including headlining the 68th Asantehene Golf Tournament, trade activations in markets, customer visits, community shop expansion, educational donations, and greening initiatives to bolster sporting, economic, health, and digital inclusion in the Ashanti Region.
