Empress Gifty’s Lawyers Demand Apology from Nana Agradaa Over Defamatory Remarks

Lawyers representing Ghanaian gospel musician Empress Gifty have issued a formal notice to Nana Agradaa, demanding a public apology and retraction over comments deemed defamatory. The demand follows a viral video where Agradaa allegedly mocked Empress Gifty’s lawyer, referring to him as a “so-called lawyer” after their initial court appearance.

The Defamatory Remarks

According to the letter signed by Patrick Tawiah-Amprofi of Tawiah-Amprofi & Associates, Agradaa’s remarks not only questioned the lawyer’s professional standing but also included abusive language. The statement described Agradaa’s reference to the lawyer as “so-called” as derogatory and defamatory to both his person and the law firm.

Demand for Apology and Retraction

The legal team has demanded that Agradaa issue a public apology and retract the statement using the same platform within seven days of receiving the notice. Failure to comply would result in court action, as stated in the letter: “Please take notice that if you fail to retract and apologise as indicated above within seven days, we shall initiate legal proceedings against you”.

Background of the Lawsuit

This development follows the Tema High Court’s dismissal of Agradaa’s motion to strike out the GH¢20 million lawsuit filed by Empress Gifty. The court fined Agradaa GH¢6,000 for delays caused by her counsel’s failure to appear at an earlier hearing. The lawsuit accuses Agradaa of defamation following a livestream where she allegedly made false and damaging claims about Empress Gifty.

Empress Gifty Seeking Damages

The gospel artiste is seeking GH¢20 million in damages, a permanent injunction to prevent further defamatory publications, and the removal of all related content from social media. The next hearing has been scheduled for July 16, 2025.

Agradaa’s Reaction

After the court dismissed her application, Agradaa was seen in a TikTok video with a smile on her face, indicating the battle is far from over. Despite the court’s decision, Agradaa has shown few signs of slowing down her attacks on Empress Gifty.

Conclusion

The demand for apology and retraction by Empress Gifty’s lawyers marks another development in the ongoing legal battle between the two women. With the court set to hear the substantive case in the coming weeks, the outcome will likely have significant implications for both Empress Gifty’s reputation and Agradaa’s ministry.
