The Redeemed Christian Church of God parish in the Somolu area in Lagos, Nigeria, risks demolition after a nearby building which was under construction collapsed and damaged part of the church.
Lagos authorities following the building collapse, ordered for the church to be demolished.
On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA) issued the final demolition notice.
LASBCA cited structural compromise to the church caused by the collapsed building as the basis for ordering the demolition.
Worshippers were inside the church on Monday, June 16, 2025 when the nearby building collapsed. They escaped without injury.
A notice pasted on the church wall by LASBCA read: “This building has been declared distressed and must be removed within seven days.”
