Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has set the record straight on why he chose to study law, contrary to public perception.
In an interview with Chude Jideonwo on the With Chude podcast, Falz explained that his decision to study law was inspired by his father, Femi Falana‘s, impactful work as a human rights lawyer.
Growing up, Falz witnessed firsthand the positive impact his father had on people’s lives, which sparked his own desire to emulate him. “Everyone had a story about how my dad came to their aid… At that point, I wasn’t pressured; I aspired to emulate what he was doing,” Falz said.
Meanwhile, Falz revealed that he practiced law briefly, working at the Ministry of Justice during his youth service and later at his father’s firm, but eventually pursued music full-time.
“I did practice law for a short period… Very short, almost two years,” he shared, laughing.
Lastly, Falz’s clarification sheds light on his genuine interest in law and his father’s inspiring legacy.
