Reece James’ Chelsea return delayed by hamstring injury setback

Reece James‘ return to playing football has once again stalled, as the Chelsea star’s recovery from a hamstring injury continues to go on for longer than expected, according to reports.

The Sun claims that the defender’s recovery progress has slowed, with club doctors believing the defender’s hamstring injury hasn’t healed as well as expected.

Despite that, the outlet adds: ‘insiders at Stamford Bridge insist there has been no setback or fresh, new injury to the affected muscle.’

James picked up the current injury this summer after a prolonged spell on the sidelines recovering from hamstring surgery in December 2023.

He was limited to just 10  Premier League appearances in the 2023-24 campaign, and played only 16 in the season before that.

The current injury scuppered his selection from the England squad that made the final of the 2024 European Championship.

James had featured for Chelsea during their summer tour of the USA but is yet to feature for the London club in the Premier League so far this season.

The 24-year-old fullback has suffered a torrid time with hamstring injuries throughout his career, which has undoubtedly prevented him from achieving the full potential of his prodigious talent, yet.

There is no fixed date for James’ comeback, but fans will hope to see a club favourite play first-team football before the end of the calendar year.
