The World Health Organization (WHO) has announced the suspension of operations at its global emergency logistics hub in Dubai due to ongoing war in the Middle East.
Director General of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, announced the suspension.
Addressing a press conference, he said “Operations at WHO’s logistics hub for global health emergencies in Dubai are currently on hold due to insecurity.”
In 2025, the WHO global logistics hub processed over 500 emergency orders for 75 countries around the world, Hanan Balkhy, the WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean regional director, told reporters.
According to her, “Humanitarian health supply chains are now being jeopardised.”
Balkhy explained that “the hub’s operations are temporarily on hold due to insecurity, airspace closures and restrictions affecting access to the Strait of Hormuz”.
The disruption, she said, was “preventing access to $18m in humanitarian health supplies while another $8m in shipments cannot reach the hub”.
Israel and US war with Iran has seen Iran attacking countries in the Middle East including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Oman.
