The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has taken drastic measures against examination malpractice, cancelling the subject results of 4,108 candidates and withholding the results of 781 others who sat for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) .

The cancellations and withholdings are a result of various forms of malpractice, including bringing unauthorized materials into the examination hall, possession of mobile phones during the exam, and suspected collusion .

WAEC has also cancelled the entire results of 483 candidates who were found with mobile phones during the examination. Additionally, the results of 209 candidates have been withheld pending further investigations into alleged malpractices .

The council has also flagged the results of candidates from 319 schools for alleged collusion, and these results are currently under investigation .

WAEC’s actions demonstrate its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and upholding a zero-tolerance policy towards malpractice. The council has assured the public that investigations into these cases are ongoing and that fairness and credibility will be upheld .
