Legendary Nigerian singer, Onyeka Onwenu, has slumped and died moments after performing at a birthday party in Lagos.
She is said to have died at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos on Tuesday night, July 30, 2024.
Family sources reportedly said she was attending the birthday party of Mrs. Stella Okoli of Emzor Pharmaceuticals.
Onwenu took to the stage to perform at the party. After performing, she returned to her seat but suddenly slumped.
The veteran singer – whose career spanned over forty years – was rushed to Reddington Hospital in Lagos where she was pronounced dead.
The late Onwenu, born May 31, 1952, was also an actress, journalist and politician aside being a prolific singer.
Her first album dubbed: ‘In The Morning Light’ was released in 1984.
