Samuel Sam-Sumana
Former Vice President of Sierra Leone, Samuel Sam-Sumana, has turned to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC), seeking redress after what he described as his unfair disenfranchisement by the All People’s Congress (APC).
Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday September 3, 2025 in Freetown, Sam-Sumana stressed that transparency and fairness within the APC are critical for the party’s future credibility. “Without transparency within the APC, what are we showing to the world?” he asked pointedly.
Reflecting on his political journey, the former vice president lamented his controversial removal from office, which he described as unconstitutional. “I have done everything humanly possible since I was unconstitutionally removed as a second-generation member of the APC. But I will not be the individual to contribute to anarchy in Sierra Leone,” he emphasized.
Sam-Sumana clarified that his absence from the APC was not voluntary. “I never left the APC. I was expelled. They kicked me out of my father’s house,” he said, adding that the party must return to its founding principles to remain relevant.
He called on the party’s hierarchy to broaden its appeal by embracing inclusivity across regions and ethnic groups. He noted that the APC must go back to the drawing board and attract votes across the nation, irrespective of ethnicity and region.
Despite his grievances, Sam-Sumana reaffirmed his readiness to support the APC once his membership issue is resolved. “I shall stand and support the APC to win the 2028 election,” He added. He noted that If the APC have adopted the principles of democracy, let there be a fair playing ground.
The PPRC has yet to comment on the matter, but political observers suggest that the case could have significant implications for internal party democracy and Sierra Leone’s political landscape ahead of 2028.
