One of Brazil’s finest footballers of all time, Ronaldinho Gaucho, has expressed profound sadness about the poor performance of the Brazilian national men’s football team in recent years, vowing he “will not watch any Brazil game at the Copa America and not celebrate any victory.”

According to him, the current performance of Brazil’s team “is a shame,” adding that he’s “done” with the team.

He bemoaned “I have had enough. It’s a sad moment for those who love Brazilian football…and it’s hard now to find the spirit to watch the games when you see this team now.”

The current Brazilian team has some of the world’s current best players including potential Ballon d’Or winner, Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo, Militao.

Ronaldinho was part of the Brazil team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2002 when the global football competition was jointly hosted by South Korea and Japan. That year’s World Cup winning squad other legendary Brazilian players namely Ronaldo, Cafu, Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, among others.

Brazil have lifted the World Cup a record five times – 1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002. They are also the only team to compete in all 21 editions.

The Brazilian national team,
nicknamed ‘La Selecao’, Brazil are also the most successful men’s team in the World Cup in terms of matches played (109), matches won (73) and goals scored (229).

But their performance since they last won the World Cup in Japan and South Korea, has been nothing to write home about. Brazil were knocked out of the 2022 World Cup hosted by Qatar at the quarterfinal stage. They were defeated by Croatia despite first taking the lead.

On July 11, 2021, Brazil lost 1- 0 to Argentina in the Copa America final. The defeat for Brazil in the final gave Argentina their first major title in 28 years.

Ronaldinho says the current Brazilian team “is one of the worst teams in recent years, also no respectable leaders and only average players for the majority, it’s something unacceptable for all of us.”

He added: “I have never seen a situation as bad as this. Lack of love for Brazil shirt, lack of quality, and lack of football.”

Ronaldinho says “Our performance has been one of the worst things I have ever seen, it’s such a shame. I am leaving this.”
