Nigeria: Pregnant Widow Banished From Ugbema Community For Stealing From Shops

A pregnant Nigerian woman whose husband is reported to have died recently, has reportedly been banished from the Ugbema Community in Buruku Local Government Area of Benue State for allegedly stealing from shops to feed herself and her young son.

Local media reports say she was accused of shoplifting and subsequently banished.

According to reports, community elders allegedly ordered that the woman who recently lost her husband should be banished from the town.

Reports citing eyewitnesses indicated that the woman had allegedly been stealing small items from shops to feed herself and her young son.

But her luck ran out on Saturday, October 10, 2025 when local youth caught her and subjected her to public punishment under the scorching sun.
