NIGERIA: Kogi Woman on the Run After Allegedly Poisoning Husband Over Second Marriage

A woman identified as Favour is currently on the run after allegedly poisoning her husband, Abdul Kadir Nagazi, to death in Kogi State. The incident reportedly followed Nagazi’s decision to take a second wife after nine years of childless marriage with the suspect.

The tragic development was brought to public attention by a family member, Engr. Abdulrazak Abdulrazeez, who shared the details via Facebook alongside footage from the victim’s funeral on Monday.

Background and Motive

According to family accounts, the couple had been married for nine years without children. In a bid to expand his family, Abdul Kadir Nagazi recently took a second wife, who successfully gave birth to a baby boy last month.

It is alleged that the arrival of the child and the new marriage sparked severe resentment in Favour, leading to the fatal plot.

Details of the Incident

Reports indicate that Favour invited her husband to spend the night with her on Saturday. However, shortly after the visit, Nagazi was rushed to an undisclosed hospital in critical condition.

Medical professionals at the facility reportedly confirmed that he had been poisoned. The poisoning was allegedly administered through both contaminated food and a lethal injection. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to the toxins.

Family Reaction and Controversial Warning

Engr. Abdulrazeez expressed profound grief and anger in his social media post, directed at the fleeing suspect.

“Your father is very very lucky that I wasn’t at home… See you can run but you can never hide,” he wrote, vowing that justice would be served.

The post also included a controversial warning to young men, where Abdulrazeez made sweeping generalizations based on the incident. He cautioned against marrying “Ebira girls who became sexually active at an early age,” claiming such unions lead to “a life of regression.”

Status of the Suspect

Following the confirmation of Nagazi’s death, Favour reportedly fled the community. Law enforcement agencies have been alerted, and a manhunt is expected to be launched to bring the suspect to justice.

The incident has sparked intense debate online regarding the pressures of polygamy, the trauma of childlessness, and the increasing frequency of extreme domestic violence in the country.
