Nigeria: Kano Police Nab Four in Coordinated Raids over Suspected Drug Trafficking

The Kano State Police Command has arrested four individuals in separate, intelligence-driven operations over alleged possession and trafficking of illicit drugs within the state.

The arrests were carried out during routine patrols and targeted raids by police operatives, in line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, on sustained visibility policing and crime prevention.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, disclosed that two of the suspects were apprehended on January 25, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m. by officers attached to the Fagge Police Division.

According to the police, the suspects were intercepted at Triumph Roundabout while conveying two sacks on a tricycle. A search of the items reportedly led to the recovery of 157 parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis sativa.

The suspects were identified as Amadu Ado and Salisu Lurwanu, both residents of Kulliya Village in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State.

Further Arrests

In a separate operation conducted a day earlier, the command’s Rapid Response Team (RRT) carried out raids on identified drug black spots across parts of the Kano metropolis on January 24, 2026, at about 5:25 p.m.

That operation resulted in the arrest of two additional suspects, Usman Hamisu (22) and Auwal Abdullahi (25). Items recovered from them included suspected cannabis derivatives, rubber solution, and small bottles of a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die,” believed to be an illicit intoxicant.

Police Reaction

Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

He urged members of the public to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information and reporting suspicious movements to nearby police stations or through the command’s emergency channels.

The Kano State Police Command said investigations are ongoing and assured residents that efforts to dismantle drug networks and maintain public safety will be sustained.
