A 22-year-old man in Zambia’s Chipata District has been detained for allegedly masquerading as a female prostitute to scam men.
The motive behind the elaborate deception appears to be financial exploitation through solicitation under false pretenses.
Eastern Province Police Commanding Officer Robertson Mweemba has identified the suspect as Fred Tembo, also known as Rita Jere who was reported to Chipata Central Police Station early on January 28, 2026, following an incident at the East Point Night Club.
Police apprehended him near Choppies Mall, where he was reportedly soliciting clients while disguised in a sexual presentation.
His disguise involved plated hair, applied lipstick and a chitenge wrapper, effectively concealing his male identity.
During initial police interviews, Mr. Tembo admitted to periodically adopting this female persona.
Investigations have uncovered a complex personal backdrop, revealing that the suspect was married for a brief period of one week prior to his detention.
