US President Donald Trump says he wants to be involved in choosing Iran’s new supreme leader.
President was speaking to Axios. Trump told Axios that he needed to be personally involved in selecting Iran’s next leader.
Axios quoted President Trump as saying that “Khamenei’s son is unacceptable to me. We want someone who will bring harmony and peace to Iran.”
Mojtaba Khamenei, the 56 years-old son of Iran’s slain Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to lead Iran. His father was killed by the US and Israel in a airstrikes on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Speaking about the selection process for Iran’s new leader, Trump says “I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy (Rodriguez) in Venezuela.”
