Nigerian actress and filmmaker Grace-Charis Bassey, formerly known as Belinda Effah, has achieved a remarkable milestone—successfully completing U.S. Navy boot camp and officially becoming a United States citizen.
The 35-year-old star, born in Cross River State, shared the news with fans via Instagram, posting photos and videos from her graduation ceremony in full Navy uniform. In a heartfelt message, she dedicated the achievement to her late father, Naval Commander Asido Bassey Effah, a veteran of the Nigerian Navy.
“First, All Glory To God. Last week, I graduated from U.S. Navy boot camp as a Sailor and took the oath as a citizen of the United States,” she wrote.
“This journey wasn’t easy — but I carried my roots, my faith, and my vision every step of the way.
Nigeria raised me. America challenged me. I stand today stronger and more determined than ever.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me. This is just the beginning.
In Honor of my Late Father – Naval CDR Asido Bassey Effah.”
Grace also revealed that she joined the Navy choir during her training, merging her service with her lifelong passion for the arts.
A celebrated figure in Nollywood, Grace-Charis Bassey rose to fame with acclaimed performances in films like Kokomma and Miracle. Her role in Kokomma earned her the Most Promising Act award at the 9th Africa Movie Academy Awards. In 2021, she announced her name change following what she described as a divine encounter that redefined her purpose and identity.
Her story, now bridging continents and callings, is a powerful testament to perseverance, faith, and transformation — both personal and patriotic.
