Ghanaian Naval Officer Sarah Precious Akutor to Swim 3.1km Non-Stop for Children with Special Needs

Sarah Precious Akutor, a 23-year-old Able Seaman Class 2 from the Naval Logistics Command in Takoradi, is preparing to set a remarkable record by swimming 3.1 kilometers non-stop from Busua to Abokwa Island in the Western Region.

The formidable challenge, titled the Wave of Hope, is aimed at raising funds in support of the Chief of Defence Staff’s initiative to build a crucial center for children with special needs.

Details of the Challenge

Speaking to Citi News, Akutor explained that the effort is not only about fundraising but also about empowering women and highlighting their resilience and strength.

  • Official Launch: The Wave of Hope swimming challenge is scheduled to be officially launched on Monday, November 17, 2025.
  • The Swim: Akutor will undertake the grueling 3.1km swim on Friday, November 21.

The Naval Officer has appealed to the public for widespread support as she prepares for the record attempt, aiming to turn her athletic feat into tangible assistance for children in need.
